04/09/2011 12:00The development of ii-register barcode scanning application is in development, planned release of this technology preview is in september 2011.

This page will be updated with info about the development process as it proceeds. We have made a few mockups of the UI as you can see - and we have had an internal demonstration of the scanning application on a new Android phone. The final mobile application will have the following functionality:

  • Create an Informed Individual user account.
  • Scan products that have a barcode.
  • Toggle on/off public and private filters.
  • Show detailed feedback for products based on active filters.
  • Set current store from a list of favourite stores
  • Store scanned barcodes to a product-list that may be reviewed later on.
  • Product-lists may be attached to a favourite store or a new store which can be specified on web later.

On ii42.org there will be a web-application which will offer:

  • Login with your e-mail address and password
  • Browse and subscribe to public filters
  • Create own private filters based on ingredients, nutrition, vendors and other public filters.
  • Browse private product-lists that you have saved from mobile client.
  • Toggle active filters and see impact on products in product-lists.
  • Create new stores or attach product-lists to existing stores.
  • Add favourite stores that will appear in settings menu in mobile client.

We have been in contact with a couple of organizations are interested in creating their own public filters that users may subscribe to. If your organization have data that you feel is in the common interest of a group of people, feel free to contact us for more information on how to create your own filter for free.

Here are some examples of data that may be of interest to certain groups:

  1. food that is safe to eat when you are pregnant or have a medical condition.
  2. products that are made by companies that is considered ethical.
  3. plumbing/carpenter company that has a good reputation amongst the people you trust.
  4. local politicians that voted for building the local swimming pool, soccer field or kindergarten

A new press release will be made official when the application is released to Android Marked.
